HERBS
'N SPICES: HERBAL RECIPES
Simple recipes
using herbs and other ingredients:
Lavender and Milk Bath Sachet
1/4 cup dried lavender flowers
1/4 cup instant powdered whole milk
1/4 cup oatmeal
Place into a muslin drawstring bag. Toss the bag into
the bath water as it's running. You can also use the
bag to rub your skin as you bathe.
Chamomile Rosemary Foot Bath
You will need:
1 cup cider or white vinegar
1 cup water
3 tablespoons chamomile flowers
1/2 cup rosemary flowers and/or leaves
Steep the above for ten minutes, add to a dish
pan or large bowl, and soak your feet. This is
wonderful for tired feet!
Lina's Rose Hip Tea
Dried rose hips need to be boiled about 10 minutes
to make a tea of them; just pouring hot water over
them results in a fairly tasteless brew. Use 2 tbsp.
per pint of water, boil covered. The hips must expand,
split, and let the water get at the soft seeds within. The
resulting tea may be pinkish, depending on the type of
roses whose berries are used. The tea is acid-tasting,
but not as sharp as lemon juice. Some like it sweetened.
A half-teaspoon of dried mint may be added to give it a
different flavor. Purchased rosehips for tea you'll find
only the hardened dried shell of the berry. Boil that 15
minutes for your tea.
Some recipes to pamper your hair:
CHAMOMILE HAIR RINSE (for fair hair)
2 oz. chamomile flowers
2/3 cup cider vinegar
5 drops chamomile essential oil
Pour 1 1/2 pints of boiling water over chamomile flowers -
cover and infuse overnight. Strain the liquid, add vinegar
and oil, then pour into a stoppered bottle. Use as a final
hair rinse. If left in the hair it will lighten hair especially if
dried in the sun.
ROSEMARY HAIR RINSE
(especially for dark hair and/or dandruff/scalp problems)
2 oz. sprigs of rosemary
1 1/4 cups cider vinegar
10 drops rosemary essential oil
Make this rinse in the same way as chamomile rinse. Use
it once a week to assist with scalp problems - it also adds
shine to dark hair.
